Our new furniture is here and life is good! Brown has slowly become the official color of our family. Don’t know how, or when, it happened but it did. I’ve got nothing much to say, but here is the new living room.

Until Next Time

The Dad

What’s that you ask? That’s our empty living room. The trash company came to pick up our disgusting old living room set a couple of days ago so this large very reverberant room is what we’ve been living with. We’ve got 1 soccer ball, 1 dog, and an end table left. Those white patches on the wall are where our old couch scraped the paint off so we’re repainting that tonight. Tomorrow the new furniture, we’re calling it “The Browns” from here on out, will move in and life will be grand once again.

Ah, winter is finally over and my family has come out of hibernation. We’ve already undertaken a gigantic project of remulching (is that a word) our entire property. Say hello to “Mulchasaurus!” The biggest pile of landscaping material to ever see my driveway.

We have an open corner in our living room now that we’ve gotten rid of an old recliner. It had made it’s way through two cats, two nursing babies, 4 puppies, and a few sleepy nights for me after work. Needless to say, it was a bit grossified after all of these years. We decided to toss it a few weeks ago and have a gigantic space in the corner of our living that needs to be filled. We woke up this morning with the intention of going around town, browsing for a new chair. We had earmarked a few furniture stores in town and blocked off most of the day for the purpose of finding the perfect chair.

I’ve made a striking discovery in the last 24 hours. WE ARE SUMMER PEOPLE!!! My wife and I have spent our whole lives in various parts of the Midwest, so you’d think that we would have gotten used to the winter by now. Turns out, it doesn’t work that way. You don’t get used to the cold like you get used to a hot tub, you just get more and more annoyed with it. If any of you live here, or have been following the news, then you know we got pounded by a winter storm last week. We figured it had passed us by, then Saturday came and it snowed for about 6 hours straight. Oh, the sun did break through the clouds though…45 minutes before it went down over the western horizon!

If you’ve been following the news then you know that those of us in the midwest are getting pounded by a winter storm. Of course, given my luck, I broke my snow shovel about 3 minutes into trying to shovel down my driveway. In my duct tape, DIY, bearded-man mentality I thought, “I’ll just slam on the gas and barrel through with the car.” I figured I could drive to the nearest Wal-Mart and buy a new shovel, then come back and dig my way back up the driveway.

Our daughter is five, soon to be six, and our son will be two in a couple of weeks. Some people may be surprised to learn that we have yet to childproof our house. No locks on drawers, cabinets, etc. We’ve done some logical things like move the poisons, medicines, sharp objects, etc out of reach. We’ve just never used any of those handy babyproofing items you can get at the store…until now. It may seem backwards to be doing this now that both of our kids are out of the baby stage but we’ve never needed to do this before now.
