So spring came early here in Indiana, or so we thought. Temperatures were getting in the mid to high 70′s in the middle of March, which is pretty much unheard of out here. Snow into April isn’t uncommon so we were all thanking Global Warming, and stepping outside. Flowers began peaking out of the grown, bushes came back to life, and my lawn greened up. What a perfect time to get the garden fired up, right?

It’s the end of fall, so I thought I’d give a quick update on the ol’ fam. My daughter talked me into getting her a hamster, and we’ve closed out the garden for the year. We got one last load of peppers out of the pepper box, and it was enough to fill an entire wheelbarrow! I’ll have pics of all of this coming soon, but for now, that’s what’s happening in the midwest.

Garden Update

The garden is in full swing so I thought I’d throw a couple of pictures up here so you can see what we’re getting. We’ve already harvested dozens and dozens of tomatoes but those were turned into sauce before I thought to take a picture of them. We also have gotten about 4 dozen peppers that were chopped and frozen before I thought to take pictures of those…BUT I did remember to take pictures of this week’s pepper harvest.

Hello all. The garden is exploding right now so I thought I’d post a few pictures to give you a progress report. Also will have a before/after post on the master bedroom soon so stay tuned for that. For now, enjoy the garden…

Onion Flowers, which I just think are awesome…

Were you aware that I have an awesome wife? I wasn’t sure, so I thought I’d remind you. I know that most husbands say these types of things around mother’s day, or maybe even other times of the year as well, but I don’t say it to be polite. Or to be nice. Or because I want to earn points with the wife. I say it because it’s true. My wife cooks all of the meals, does all of the dishes, cleans the house, does the laundry, manages our finances, takes care of the kids, keeps the dogs from destroying our house, and then on top of that is just a really cool chick to hang out with. These are not exaggerations either. I can’t remember the last dish that I washed, or the last time that I changed a diaper. She does all of this without complaint, and all she asks of me is to get to work and keep the bank account full.

For whatever reason there has always been a spot in our lawn that has never really filled in. There’s good drainage, it gets plenty of sun, and very little traffic. Who knows? I decided to reseed it this weekend and put some straw down on top to help hold moisture and prevent the seed from blowing away (which has happened before). Do you know how hard it is to find straw in this town? Let me tell you, in case you didn’t know. VERY. Very hard. In fact the last place that I thought to look, because it’s hidden was Lowes. In a giant red dumpster behind the garden center, where you would never go, they have bales of straw. Hey, why not?

I am no longer the older one in our marriage. The Wife turned 28 on monday so we’re the same age again. Not that it really affects me either way. I feel 19 anyway, but still…

So when asked what she wanted for her birthday, all she said was “I want to get out of this town.” Simple enough. She decided on heading down to Indianapolis and hanging out there. They’ve got some pretty cool malls, a decent downtown, etc. Perfect place for a girl who likes to shop. We stayed at a hotel that was right downtown, and our suite was on the top floor so it was a pretty awesome view. Grabbed some dinner, checked out the zoo, hit up White Castle for lunch. Not too shabby.
